THE AGREEMENT, PLAINLY

Terms of use.

Diurna is a daily reading app made by Timko Labs Inc. These are the terms you use it under, and the terms of a Diurna Plus subscription. Using the app means you accept them.

Apple’s licence applies too.

Diurna is distributed through the App Store and is licensed to you, not sold. Apple’s standard End User Licence Agreement for App Store applications applies to your use of the app, and these terms supplement it. Where the two disagree, Apple’s agreement governs your licence to the app itself.

You may use Diurna for personal, non-commercial reading. Please do not reverse engineer it, redistribute it or its editorial text as your own collection, or use it in a way that places an unreasonable load on the daily edition service.

What stays free.

The daily edition, home and lock screen widgets, your collection and reading history, your private reflections, iCloud sync, search, and export are free, and remain free. They do not depend on a subscription, and they keep working if a subscription ends. Nothing you have already written or saved is withheld from you.

Diurna Plus.

Diurna Plus is an auto-renewable subscription. It unlocks four guided journeys of seven readings each, resurfacing of passages you have saved, and a private weekly review of your own reading. It is offered at US$2.99 per month or US$19.99 per year; the App Store shows the price for your region before you confirm. There is no free trial and no introductory offer.

Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. A subscription renews automatically for the same period unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before that. Manage or cancel a subscription in the Subscriptions section of your Apple Account settings; deleting the app does not cancel it.

Cancelling keeps Plus available until the end of the period you have already paid for. After that, guided readings you have already opened stay in your collection with their context; readings you never opened are no longer available. Everything in the free tier is unaffected.

Tips are voluntary.

Diurna offers optional one-time tips. A tip is a thank-you toward the cost of making the free daily edition. It unlocks nothing, grants no feature, and gives no Plus access. Because it buys nothing, it is not refundable by us.

Purchases and refunds.

Apple processes every purchase, subscription, renewal, and tip. We never see or hold your payment-card details, and we cannot charge, credit, or refund your Apple Account. Requests for a refund go to Apple and are decided under Apple’s terms. If a purchase does not appear on a new or reinstalled device, use Restore Purchases in Diurna.

The quotations.

Diurna quotes public-domain works and public-domain translations, and names the author, the work, the section, and the translator so you can read the passage in its own context. If a passage looks wrong, tell us and we will check it against the named edition; section numbering differs between translations.

Editorial notes, practice suggestions, reflection prompts, and journey titles are our own writing. They are a reading practice, not advice. Diurna is not therapy, counselling, or medical care, and we make no claim that reading it will improve your health, your mood, or any other outcome. If you are struggling, please speak to a qualified professional.

The content changes.

Diurna is an edited publication. Passages, notes, journeys, and the daily queue are chosen by a person and may be corrected, replaced, or withdrawn. We do not promise that any particular reading will remain in the app, and we may add, change, or discontinue features. Guided content ships with the app, so revisions arrive with an app update.

Provided as is.

Diurna is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that it will be available, uninterrupted, or free of error, that the daily edition will publish on any given day, or that sync will complete. Keep your own copy of anything you would be sorry to lose; export is free for that reason.

Limitation of liability.

To the extent the law allows, Timko Labs Inc. is not liable for any damages arising from your use of Diurna, including lost writing, lost reading history, or any decision made on the basis of something you read in the app.

Changes to these terms.

These terms may change. Continuing to use Diurna after a change means you accept the revised terms, and the date at the end of this page changes with them.

Governing law.

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada, and the laws of Canada applicable in it.

Contact.
